Police investigate theft of nearly $500,000 worth of goods from Quebec sports store

Aug 8, 2018 | 8:45 AM

LAVAL, Que. — Police say brazen thieves have managed to steal a half-million dollars worth of goods, mostly hockey equipment, from a sports store north of Montreal.

Authorities in Laval says the theft took place between closing time Sunday evening and 8 o’clock Monday morning, when employees returned to find the Rousseau Sports store ransacked.

Const. Evelyne Boudreau says a full inventory has to be done by the owners, but that mostly hockey equipment was taken.

There was an alarm on site, but exactly what happened is unclear as there was extensive damage inside the store and in the storage area.

Boudreau says targeted thefts like the one in question aren’t uncommon and that the stolen items often find their way to thrift stores or flea markets.

She says investigators are asking anyone who saw something to contact police.
