Chiefs score early and often as Hurricanes four-game winning streak comes to an end
SPOKANE – Penalty troubles and a poor start sunk the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday, Dec. 7, as their four-game winning streak was halted by the Spokane Chiefs 6-2.
After Igor Merezhko took an early tripping penalty, Spokane opened the scoring when Luc Smith beat Lethbridge goaltender Carl Tetachuk to make it 1-0 at 4:34. Then 15 seconds later Jake McGrew would find the back of the net making it 2-0 Chiefs not five minutes into the 1st period.
Lethbridge would regroup, and keep Spokane off the scoresheet for the rest of the opening frame. Shots were tied at nine apiece after one as well.
A similar storyline would break out in the 2nd period when just over a minute in on the powerplay Spokane would strike again. Luc Smith’s second of the night would give his club a 3-0 lead, and then just past the four-minute mark, the Chiefs would chase Tetachuk after Riley Woods made it 4-0.
