LETHBRIDGE, AB – The 5th Annual Youth Police Academy on Thursday, May 9, gave 20 area high school students who expressed an interest in policing and applied to take part in the program an up-close look at what it means to serve as a police officer.

The Grade 11 and 12 students spent the day with School Resource Officers and other members of the Lethbridge Police Service learning more about the work police officers do and the opportunities that are available that make a career in policing so unique and rewarding.

The itinerary included a tour of the station as well as a classroom component where students learnt about the powers of arrest and use of force.

The group also spent some time with members of the Criminal Investigation Section, Traffic Response Unit, practiced their handcuffing technique and watched demonstrations by the Ident Unit, K9 Unit, Tactical Team and observed firearms training as well.
