Trial date confirmed for RCMP officer charged with assault

LETHBRIDGE, AB – UPDATE: The case against Fort Macleod RCMP officer, Troy William Heystek, who was scheduled for trial on Dec 7, 2020, has been resolved with a peace bond.

The bond stipulates several conditions for Heystek, including he undergo an assessment, as well as completing treatment or counselling, as recommended by a probation officer. He is also not to be in contact with the complainant in this case.

The case of an RCMP Officer from the Fort Macleod detachment is scheduled to go to trial in Lethbridge in August.

Cst. Troy Heystek, who has been charged with one count of assault in connection with an incident in Granum, is scheduled to take part in a two-day trial, Aug. 8 and 9 in Lethbridge Provincial Court.

RCMP allege that on April 13, 2018, an officer responded to a 9-1-1 call from a home in Granum. After checking to make sure that the resident of the home was ok, a verbal and physical exchange between the two allegedly took place, and the resident was allegedly pushed and punched.

The matter was later investigated by Pincher Creek RCMP, who later charged Heystek.

He has been reassigned to an administrative roll pending the outcome of the trial.
