LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s rugby program has continued to build this year’s recruiting class, this time by adding another Southern Alberta product with family ties to the program.

Dani Wright, a Taber product and the younger sister of current Pronghorn Genna Wright, announced her commitment to the program on Thursday, May 16.

Pronghorn head coach Neil Langevin says he has watched Dani compete at the High School level and for the U18 provincial team over the last few years.

“Over that time, she has continued to demonstrate growth and resiliency that is unmatched. Dani is a keen competitor whose value on every team she has played can’t be understated. I am looking forward to seeing her improve and compete here.”

Dani is the seventh member of the Prairie Wolfpack provincial team to commit to the Pronghorns for the upcoming season, and she played at both the U16 and U18 levels for the provincial team.

“Although we are deep in the forwards, I don’t doubt that she will push for playing time next year and then I expect her to become a team leader in the coming seasons,” Langevin added.

At the high school level with WR Meyers, the versatile forward has been part of two tier three provincial titles in 2017 and 2018. With Meyers, Wright has been effective playing 8, flank and lock and was named the Most Outstanding Forward in 2018.

“I’m very excited to have this privilege of playing at the University of Lethbridge on the women’s rugby team,” Wright said. “It’s a strong program with great leadership and coaches. I look forward to working hard to improve my game as well playing with my sister Genna.”

Wright is also a strong student, having been on the honour roll throughout her high school years, and is planning to pursue a degree in Music and Education.

The Pronghorn recruiting class for the 2019 season now sits at eight, with Wright joining other new recruits Mackenzie Hamm, Tess Domes, Sawyer Sprague, Janelle Agot, Jada Holtkamp, Brooklyn Perry and Gabrielle Sever, who were announced earlier this year.
