LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police are investigating after an eight-year-old boy disclosed that a man sexually assaulted him in a public washroom at Henderson Lake earlier this month.

Police say the matter was reported to them on June 12 – the same day the boy told his mother about the incident.

An investigation found the boy was attending a birthday party at Henderson Lake on the evening of June 1, when an older, unknown man approached him. After being offered candy, the boy accompanied the man to the washroom where he was sexually assaulted.

Following the incident, a witness observed the man with the boy near the water and called out to the child to come back to the party.

The man appeared nervous and quickly walked north toward the parking lot.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, in his 60s, approximately 5’6” to 5’7” tall, with a slim build and clean-cut white hair.

He was wearing light beige, cargo-type khaki shorts that were past the knee, a white and red plaid shirt and white tennis shoes.

Anyone who was in Henderson Lake Park on June 1 between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. and may have observed a man matching the description is asked to contact police as soon as possible at 403-328-4444.

The investigation is ongoing.
