Lethbridge County considering allowing off-highway vehicles on county roads

Jun 27, 2019 | 10:33 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Officials with Lethbridge county will be giving third and final reading to Bylaw #19-023 at their July 4th council meeting.

If adopted, it would allow off-highway vehicles (OHV) to travel on rural roads.

They believe this would remove restrictions for the farming community as they work in and around their farms using OHVs.

Currently, Community Peace Officers working with the County must enforce provincial laws that prohibit their use since no municipal regulations exist.

Residents would have to ensure their OHVs are licensed, registered, and insured. They cannot be operated half and hour before sunrise or half an hour after sunset and cannot travel faster than 50 km/hour.

Bylaw #19-023 will be brought forward for final consideration at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 4th in county council chambers in Lethbridge.

The full proposed bylaw, including the rest of the council agenda, can be viewed online here.
