Fatal collision south of Coaldale claims lives of two Taber seniors

Jul 28, 2019 | 7:43 AM

COALDALE — A section of Highway-4 was shut down for about six hours Saturday (July 27) evening, to allow RCMP traffic reconstruction members to investigate a fatal two vehicle collision.

The incident happened around 7:40, at the intersection with Range Road 205 and required the help of Volker Stevin services to reroute traffic.

RCMP determined a semi trailer hauling agricultural equipment was heading southeast on Highway 4 when it collided with a northbound SUV entering Highway-4 from the range road. The SUV was struck broadside by the semi.

The impact on the smaller vehicle crushed the driver’s side. The two occupants of the car, an older couple in their 80’s from Taber, died at the scene.

The driver and passenger in the semi were not injured.

RCMP note the speed limit on Highway-4 at that stretch of road is 110-kmph and vehicles entering Highway-4 are to stop prior to entering the highway.

There will be no charges in the incident and the names of the deceased will not be released.
