TABER, AB – With voting day in the 2019 federal election just over a month away, candidates from four different parties have started their official campaigns.

Bow River includes communities such as Taber, Vauxhall, Vulcan, Brooks, Strathmore, and others.

Incumbent Conservative Party of Canada candidate Martin Shields will be seeking his second term in office, which follows a 30+ year career as a teacher and school administrator.

Thomas Lipp is Southern Alberta’s only candidate representing the Christian Heritage Party. According to his bio, his family left “communist Europe” many years ago for “a land of freedom and opportunity”, and that is what he hopes to protect and promote in Bow River.

Running for the brand-new Peoples’ Party of Canada is Tom Ikert. As a carpenter and livestock farmer, he wants action “to champion fairness, hard work, care for those who need it, and an optimism” that can create a better world.

The only candidate in the riding on the left side of the political spectrum is Riny Tuithof de Jonge of the Greens. No information or photos for de Jonge is available on the Green Party of Canada website, a personal website, or a social media account.

Election day is October 21st.
