U of L and Lethbridge College Weekend Sports Recap: Oct. 25-27, 2019

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It was a very successful weekend for local teams, particularly the Lethbridge College soccer and cross-country squads.

LETHBRIDGE COLLEGE KODIAKS

The men and women’s soccer teams competed at the ACAC championships, with the men coming home with gold and the women earning bronze.

Meanwhile, the women’s cross-country team finished first at the ACAC championships in Calgary. The men’s team placed fourth.

In regular season action, the men’s basketball team beat Medicine Hat College 92-80 on Friday, following that up with a close 88-84 victory against St. Mary’s University.

The men’s team faces Ambrose University next Saturday, November 2 at 8:00 p.m.

The women’s team also went undefeated over the weekend, with a 67-61 win over Medicine Hat Friday and an 83-73 victory over St. Mary’s University Saturday. Like the men’s squad, the women face Ambrose University on Saturday, with their game set for 6:00 p.m.

The volleyball teams had the weekend off. The men and women face Olds College this Friday (Nov. 1) and Saturday, Nov. 2.

U OF L PRONGHORNS

The men’s basketball team didn’t fare too well at the Providence Tournament in Montana. They fell 115-89 to the University of Providence on Friday (Oct. 25) before losing 107-74 against Rocky Mountain College on Saturday. The men face the University of Alberta this coming Friday.

Tough weekend for the women’s team as well. They lost 86-76 in Calgary against the University of Victoria on Friday. On Saturday, it was a 72-59 loss to Trinity Western University. The women face the University of Alberta Pandas on Friday on home court in Lethbridge.

The men’s hockey team saw losses to the University of Alberta; 9-1 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday. They play Mount Royal University on Friday, Nov. 8.

The women’s team went 50-50, they beat the Pandas 2-1 on Friday night before a 3-1 loss Saturday. Like the men’s team, they’re in action Nov. 8 against Mount Royal.

On the soccer pitch, it was an unfortunate start to the weekend for the women’s soccer team. They’ve been knocked out of the playoffs following a 1-0 loss to the UBC Thunderbirds Friday.

The men’s soccer team’s season is already over – as they failed to make the playoffs at the end of the regular season earlier in the month.
