FOOTHILLS COUNTY, AB – Okotoks RCMP responded to a serious collision early this morning.

Mounties say that at around 12:25 a.m. June 12, they responded to a head-on collision on Highway 2 between Okotoks and Calgary.

A four-door sedan was travelling northbound in the southbound lanes when it collided with a minivan travelling southbound. RCMP say the driver of the minivan was ejected from the vehicle and taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The passenger of the sedan was airlifted to hospital by STARS and is in critical condition, while the driver of the sedan was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Traffic was diverted for several hours along the highway as crews responded, but the roadway has since been reopened.

The cause of the collision continues to be investigated, but RCMP have noted alcohol is believed to be a factor.
