No bail in double murder

Bail denied to man charged in deaths of Metis hunters

EDMONTON, AB. — An Alberta man charged in the roadside deaths of two Metis hunters has been denied bail.

Roger Bilodeau, who is 56, and his 31-year-old son Anthony Bilodeau both face two counts of second-degree murder in the March killings.

Details of what was said in Roger Bilodeau’s bail review today cannot be disclosed because of a publication ban.

39-year old Jake Sansom, of Nobleford and his 57 year old uncle Maurice Cardinal, were found shot to death on a rural road near Glendon, Alberta.

Members of the Metis Nation of Alberta have been rallying outside the courthouse in Edmonton during each court date.

The group has said both victims were citizens of the Metis Nation.

Outside court on Wednesday, a lawyer for Sansom’s family said they are pleased with the decision.

Meanwhile, the prosecution says it plans to apply for direct indictment on August 13th to send the case straight to trial.

Anthony Bilodeau has also been denied bail, but plans to seek leave to appeal that decision.
