LETHBRIDGE, AB. — We all have to eat and there is no shortage of quality foods on the prairie provinces…particularly at this time of year. With the abundance of Farmers’ Markets, people have increasing opportunities to buy direct from the producer and check-out where their food actually comes from, how it’s grown or raised and cared for.

With that mind, Alberta Open Farm Days have been set for the weekend of August 15 and 16. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, farm experiences will look a bit different this year. You’re encouraged to visit the Alberta Open Farm Days website, to find out which farms you’re interested in and information on what to expect when you arrive at he farms.

A number of the Open Farms can be found in Southern Alberta and the Alberta Sugar Beet Growers have put together several videos on some of the local producers. One of them is CP Farms, where Michel Camps talks about the opportunity to learn about farming and see what farm processes look like.

Open Farm Days has taken place in Canada for over 10 years, starting in the Maritimes and moving West.

2020 will mark the eighth annual Alberta Open Farm Days, which give Albertans the opportunity to experience a farm and understand where their food comes from. It is a backstage pass to meet the farmer, experience Ag-tourism in Alberta and taste local foods direct from the producer.
