Lethbridge College mandating face masks starting August 17

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge’s two largest post-secondary schools are or will be requiring the use of face masks or other face coverings.

Effective Monday, August 17, Lethbridge College says all staff and students must use face masks in on-campus indoor public spaces, including hallways, washrooms, and other common-use areas.

President and CEO Dr. Paula Burns says the use of masks, in combination with other safety precautions, will help to ensure a safe environment that will allow them to hold selected on-campus labs and experimental learning opportunities this fall.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the health and safety of our students, employees and the rest of our campus community has been a priority.”

“We are constantly evaluating the newest information from Alberta Health Services and the Government of Alberta to determine what we can and should be doing to best protect everyone who visits our campus. Mandatory masks are one way we can easily make a difference and further protect everyone who needs to be on our campus,” continues Burns.

Employees will not need to wear masks while in their offices, provided they can maintain physical distancing.

PPE needs for students at in-person labs or classes will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Classes will be offered entirely or primarily online where possible and Lethbridge College employees will work from home if they are able to.

The University of Lethbridge has now implemented a similar mask mandate, effective August 10. More details here.
