LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released the latest update on COVID-19.

On Saturday, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported 989 new cases in the last 24 hours.

13,540 tests were completed, resulting in a positivity rate of 7.1 per cent.

Hinshaw stated on Twitter that there are currently 827 people in hospital, including 132 in intensive care.

31 new deaths were reported across the province.

“My thoughts and condolences go to everyone mourning a loved one today,” Hinshaw said.

She remarked that health officials have seen “encouraging signs” but the spread of the virus is still high.

“Let’s keep the momentum going by continuing to follow the current measures in place as well as all other public health guidance.”

Earlier this week, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said that restrictions currently in place would last until at least January 21.
