811 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Alberta Sunday, 11 new in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province reported less than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 in Sunday’s virus update.

811 new infections were confirmed for the last 24 hours on January 10.

The new cases bring Alberta’s total count to 111,452 cases, with 14,116 of those listed as active.

There are currently 794 people in hospital, with 128 in intensive care (ICU). 12 new deaths were confirmed in the province related to COVID-19.

“My thoughts are with everyone mourning a loved one right now,” said Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.

In the past 24 hours, 12,302 tests were completed, leading to a positivity rate of 6.4 per cent.

Hinshaw noted that as of Saturday, 44,994 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, giving a rate of 1,017.5 doses per 100,000.

“Please continue to follow current health measures in place: wear a mask in all indoor public settings and keep social gatherings to members of the same household,” she stated.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 47,349 cases, 5,543 active
    • 423 in hospital, 57 in ICU
    • 680 deaths (six new)
  • Calgary Zone – 42,614 cases, 5,019 active
    • 211 in hospital, 43 in ICU
    • 407 deaths (three new)
  • North Zone – 8,305 cases, 1,678 active
    • 63 in hospital, seven in ICU
      • 77 deaths (two new)
  • Central Zone – 7,724 cases, 1,498 active
    • 81 in hospital, 17 in ICU
    • 56 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 5,262 cases, 297 active
    • 16 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 64 deaths

The province lists 198 cases (81 active) in zones that are not known.

Sunday’s update comes ahead of in-person learning resuming in schools across Alberta on Monday, January 11.

  • Brooks – 1,357 cases, 14 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,501 cases (11 new), 106 active, 10 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 546 cases, 31 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 493 cases, 44 active, seven deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 464 cases, 31 active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 494 cases (three new), 37 active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 460 cases (one new), 33 active, seven deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 318 cases (one new), nine active, six deaths
  • Cardston County – 319 cases (four new), 46 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 149 cases (one new), six active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 145 cases, six active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 145 cases, five active, zero deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 121 cases (one new), 17 active, three deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 117 cases (one new), four active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 72 cases, three active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 12 cases, one active, zero deaths
