Westwind School Division bus involved in collision Friday, no students on board

MAGRATH, AB – RCMP are investigating a collision involving a local school district bus.

A Westwind School Division Bus was involved in a collision on Friday morning.

At around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, the bus collided with a semi-truck hauling manure north of Magrath.

The division confirmed that no students were on the bus at the time of the accident.

However, the bus driver sustained minor injuries and the semi-truck driver was taken to hospital.

“Our thoughts are with the families affected by this accident and the individuals being treated for their injuries. We are unable to comment on the status of those involved,” the division said in a statement on its website.

The RCMP is investigating the collision and the division said it will cooperate with the authorities during the process.

“We are unable to provide further details on the accident while it continues to be under investigation.”

The division said it will communicate important information with families whenever it can and is assuring parents and students of Westwind schools that student safety remains a top priority.
