LETHBRIDGE, AB– After Lethbridge City Council passed the motion to recognize April 7 as “Green Shirt Day” in Lethbridge in honour of Logan Boulet, his father Toby feels “honoured” by the city.

The day remembers the Humbolt Broncos bus crash which took place April 6, 2018, as well as the many lives lost along with Logan Boulet.

Boulet succumbed to his injuries from the crash but his parents, Bernadine and Toby acknowledged their son`s intention to donate his organs, which changed the lives of six people.

Hearing the news that April 7 will be recognized as Green Shirt Day, Toby is happy the city made this act of kindness.

“We’re always honoured when someone from Lethbridge steps forward for when the community does something for us and to have the city of Lethbridge vote unanimously have April 7 as Green Shirt Day is a wonderful thing for us.”

“Six lives were saved by Logan donating his organs,” says Councillor Blaine Hyggen, who brought the resolution forward. “Because of his selfless act, it is estimated that almost 150,000 people registered to become organ donors in the days and weeks that followed.”

April 7 is not an easy day for the Boulet family as it’s the anniversary of Logan’s passing, Toby reflected on what the day means for them.

“It’s a nice day, it’s nice that we’re able to share Logan’s story with so many people around Canada but really it’s the day we lost our son, we have ups and downs the whole day.”

The Boulet’s donated Logan`s organs because he had told his parents he was registering as an organ donor and that he was inspired by his coach and mentor Ric Suggitt.

Suggitt, who was also an organ donor, passed away but also saved six lives in doing so with organ donation.

To celebrate the day, Toby and his family will be donating plasma to help anyone in need and in his words, “that’s our way of honouring all the lives lost on the bus that day.”

The Boulet’s and all families who lost loved ones from the crash will recognize April 7th as a day to remember, and now the City of Lethbridge will as well.
