Over 500 active cases in South Zone, 76% in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Sunday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

388 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 138,424. Of those, 4,697 cases are active while 131,781 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 68 people tested positive including 40 in Lethbridge and 18 in Cardston County.

Active cases in Lethbridge increased by 23 to 415 and regionally by 46 to 545.

Since yesterday’s update, six Albertans died from COVID including four in the Edmonton Zone and two in the Central Zone. To date, 1,946 Albertans have died from the virus.

Provincially, 248 patients are currently hospitalized including 38 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 8,343 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,529,644 tests completed on 1,853,914 different people.

357,983 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across the province as of the end of March 13.

For the AstraZeneca vaccine, AHS says more than 53,000 Albertans have booked appointments since Wednesday, meaning less than 5,000 doses are currently available provincially.

They are asking eligible Albertans to book appointments as soon as possible by calling Health Link at 811.

Since yesterday’s report, 63 cases of the U.K. variant of COVID-19 were confirmed in the province including three in the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per regional health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 54,916 cases, 1,154 active
    • 85 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 992 deaths (four new)
  • Calgary Zone – 52,892 cases, 1,738 active
    • 82 in hospital, 17 in ICU
    • 595 deaths
  • North Zone – 12,763 cases, 797 active
    • 26 in hospital, two in ICU
    • 141 deaths
  • Central Zone – 10,662 cases, 452 active
    • 24 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 120 deaths (two new)
  • South Zone – 7,076 cases, 545 active
    • 31 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 98 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Brooks – 1,365 cases, two active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 2,540 cases (40 new), 415 active, 25 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 863 cases (21 new), 182 active, four deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 825 cases (nine new), 125 active, 19 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 825 cases (10 new), 109 active, two deaths
  • Cardston County – 684 cases (18 new), 69 active, 13 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 565 cases (one new), eight active, 17 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 560 cases (one new), 14 active, seven deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 342 cases, three active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 232 cases (six new), 15 active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 170 cases (two new), eight active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 161 cases, two active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 146 cases, one active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 119 cases, two active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 107 cases (two new), four active, four deaths
