AHS reports COVID death in Lethbridge, 33 new cases

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,597 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 210,387. Of those, 25,438 cases are active while 182,832 people have recovered.

406 cases, or about 25 per cent of today’s total, were variants.

In the South Zone, 68 people tested positive with 33 of those coming from Lethbridge.

Active infections in the city rose by nine but remained flat regionally.

Since yesterday’s update, seven Albertans died from COVID including three in the Edmonton Zone, two in the Central Zone, and one each in the South and Calgary Zones. To date, 2,117 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a man in his 90’s from North Lethbridge.

Provincially, 690 patients are currently hospitalized including 158 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 13,921 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,331,220 tests completed on 2,090,022 different people.

1,916,957 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of May 9.

Since yesterday’s report, 406 cases of COVID-19 variants were confirmed in Alberta with 35 of those coming from the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Calgary Zone – 84,970 cases, 11,539 active
    • 244 in hospital, 54 in ICU
    • 643 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 72,578 cases, 5,944 active
    • 240 in hospital, 69 in ICU
    • 1,048 deaths (three new)
  • North Zone – 23,164 cases, 3,762 active
    • 96 in hospital, 15 in ICU
    • 163 deaths
  • Central Zone – 18,238 cases, 2,807 active
    • 71 in hospital, nine in ICU
    • 142 deaths (two new)
  • South Zone – 11,368 cases, 1,335 active
    • 39 in hospital, 11 in ICU
    • 121 deaths (one new)

  • Lethbridge – 4,533 cases (33 new), 452 active, 37 deaths (one new)
    • West Lethbridge – 1,638 cases (18 new), 170 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,535 cases (10 new), 158 active, 10 deaths (one new)
    • South Lethbridge – 1,359 cases (five new), 122 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,439 cases (four new), 41 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,121 cases (seven new), 175 active, 12 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,057 cases (four new), 234 active, 18 deaths
  • Cardston County – 951 cases (three new), 75 active, 16 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 542 cases (one new), 63 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 402 cases (one new), 123 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 283 cases, 17 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 293 cases (seven new), 84 active, five deaths
