Lethbridge’s post-secondaries on whether students will need COVID vaccines to attend in person

May 10, 2021 | 2:21 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A growing number of colleges in the U.S.A. will require that students planning to attend classes in person this fall will need to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

This naturally made us curious about what local post-secondary schools in Southern Alberta are planning to do.

LNN reached out to the University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge College, Reeves College, and Red Crow Community College to see if immunization will be necessary to step foot on campus.

The U of L, Red Crow, and Reeves say this will not be a requirement.

As for Lethbridge College, a spokesperson informed us that it “hasn’t been discussed, but no final decisions have been made on what our fall delivery will look like.”

Like what has been the case for the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic, things could change in the months ahead with cases, government regulations, and vaccination levels.

Starting Monday, May 10, all Albertans aged 12 or older are able to book their vaccination appointments.

1,889,039 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in the province as of the end of May 8. 316,357 Albertans have received two doses.

While dozens of post-secondaries in the U.S. will require students to be vaccinated to attend in-person, it should be noted that the country currently has a higher percentage of people who have received at least one dose, at least partially due to domestic production ensuring a greater supply.

All doses used in Canada so far have to come from international sources.
