May 27, 2021 | 8:47 AM

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY, AB – Property tax notices for Lethbridge County have been mailed out.

Payment is due by July 31, 2021 and the county says there are several ways property owners can pay.

IN PERSON

Payments can be made at the Lethbridge County office in the city of Lethbridge (#100, 905 4 Avenue S.) during regular business hours – Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Payments can be made by cash, debit and by cheque. The county will not accept payments via credit card.

The county advises of potential longer wait times at the office due to limits on how many people can be inside the building at one time. Masks must also be worn when visiting the office. Payments can also be deposited in the envelope depository at the south entrance of the office.

BY MAIL

For those who cannot attend Lethbridge County’s office in person, their property taxes can be paid by mail to:

Lethbridge County

#100, 905 – 4th Avenue South

Lethbridge, AB

T1J 4E4

Mailed payments must be stamped by Canada Post with July 31 or earlier to avoid any penalties. The county advises residents to allow time for mail pick-up and delivery.

BANK PAYMENT

Property taxes are payable at most financial institutions. Payees should allow three business days for their payment to be processed, and payments made outside of business hours are not processed until the next business day.

  • Electronic payments must be received on or before the due date shown on the front of the notice. When paying online, use the 8-digit roll number as your account number (if your roll number is less than eight digits, add zeros to the front). If paying on multiple roll numbers, pay each one individually.
  • Payments can be made by pre-authorized debit from your financial institution, as per your pre-authorized agreement with Lethbridge County.

Payment is deemed to be received on the date the service provider remits the funds to Lethbridge County, and not the date on which the payment was made. Lethbridge County accepts post-dated cheques. Property owners are advised to make cheques payable to Lethbridge County and to make sure that the bottom portion of the notice accompanies the payment, or to return the entire notice if validation of receipt is required.

The county stated that if someone does not receive their tax notice, they are still responsible to make their tax payment by July 31, 2021. Anyone who does not receive their notice should contact the county at (403) 328-5525. Penalties on outstanding taxes will be applied after the following dates:

  • July 31, 2021 – 5 per cent
  • September 30, 2021 – 5 per cent
  • November 30, 2021 – 5 per cent
  • January 31, 2022 – 15 per cent
