LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge is providing updates on its plans for the Fall 2021 term.

In a letter to colleagues and students, the U of L announced new changes in light of most COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in Alberta as of July 1.

“The University of Lethbridge is committed to a full reopening of its Lethbridge and Calgary campuses for the Fall 2021 semester, to support in-person learning, research, and services. This will be done in a way that is consistent with current and future health directives and occupational health and safety requirements. The removal of public health restrictions is an important step in making this a reality,” reads the letter from the university.

While the use of face masks and physical distancing will no longer be required in most circumstances, it will be strongly encouraged. Masks will still be needed in locations that demand multiple-person occupancies such as classrooms, labs, meeting rooms, and relevant studio space.

“We understand this may go beyond the City of Lethbridge’s and Government of Alberta’s directives, but we are determined to maintain the safety of our students, faculty, and staff.”

In the days ahead, the school will remove the yellow caution tape at the Lethbridge campus that was installed to limit access to some areas.

Seating will be re-established in areas such as hallways and dining areas.

“We are also planning a staged reopening of our buildings. Detailed information will be shared in July with our campus communities about these processes.”

The U of L is hosting the “It’s Worth A Shot!” contest, where registered vaccinated students can win prizes. More details here.

Additional information on restrictions at the post-secondary institution will be released throughout July and August.
