Light up the sky: Stampede fireworks display in Lethbridge tonight

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge is one of four Alberta communities celebrating the start of the Calgary Stampede tonight.

On Friday night, July 9, Exhibition Park will host a fireworks display known as the Bell Fireworks Spectacular. The showcase will occur in conjunction with identical displays in Red Deer, Edmonton and the Stampede’s host city of Calgary.

Exhibition Park has provided a few more details on how you can enjoy the event.

The fireworks display is free to attend and in Lethbridge, people can go to the Grandstand at Exhibition Park (Rocky Mountain Turf Club) to watch. The show starts at 11:00 p.m., but the Grandstand will open at 9:00 p.m. with food trucks on hand.

Seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. The food trucks will be stationed outside the entrance to the Grandstand and include:

  • Hickory Street
  • Fresh Squeezed Lemonade
  • Churros Anyone?
  • Jerry’s Pop Shop

Parking is available at Exhibition Park, but will be “exceptionally limited” due to the set-up of this weekend’s Smoke, Wind & Fire – KCBS BBQ Competition. Use of the north parking lot and remainder of the south is permitted.

Portable washrooms will be available near the entrance to the Grandstand and contracted security will be on site, as well as members of the Lethbridge Police Service.

As for fire prevention, Exhibition Park stated that, “with the hot, dry conditions lately, ensuring the safety of the Park and the surrounding community has been our top priority.”

“We have been extensively watering the infield of the race track all week in cooperation with Lethbridge Fire Services. During the show, we will have two fire trucks and crews on site to ensure that public safety is maintained.”
