Firestone cracks top 10 of national “Best Caesar in Town” contest

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Lethbridge restaurant could stake claim to having the best Caesar in town.

Firestone Restaurant and Bar has cracked the top 10 in the Best Caesar in Town contest, presented by Mott’s Clamato Caesar. The cocktail was created in Canada and now restaurants across the nation are vying for the title of mixing the best version of the popular beverage.

Chelsey Hawkins, the Marketing Manager at Firestone, told LNN that being in a national contest is “a pretty big deal for a little Lethbridge restaurant.”

“We’re excited to be recognized on that scale – even to just be a finalist!”

Hawkins said the team at the south Lethbridge eatery has gone through many challenges over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic this past year, so the opportunity to win the $25,000 grand prize is very special.

“All sorts of COVID recovery is still happening in the restaurant. Lots of our staff have been laid off for months [and] our managers have gone through a rollercoaster, so we definitely want to spend the $25,000 to do something rewarding for our staff to thank them for really waiting out the rollercoaster that’s been the last year.”

She explained that Firestone’s Caesar was nominated by a community member. Staff then completed their submission process and put together a video promoting its Firestone Nashville Caesar – made with Mott’s Clamato Original. That video can be seen below.

Hawkins noted that, “this is a new Caesar we came up with specifically for the contest, so we’re encouraging everybody to come in and try it, and to vote.”

“It’s a little bit of a twist on our Caesar we have now. We didn’t want to mess too much with a good thing, we were very happy with our original Caesar, but we just wanted to kick it up a little bit, so we have a little bit elevated garnish, we’re using all of our own sauces and ingredients in the Caesar itself, so we’re excited.”

She’s looking forward to the prospect of holding a get-together with their staff.

“I think it’s just been so long since we’ve all been together. I know our staff are craving a staff party, they were asking for it long before [the contest], so a good chunk of the money will go towards a big activity that we can get all of the staff included in.”

Hawkins encourages everyone to “show a little bit of community spirit here, and let’s try to put Lethbridge on the map!”

Voting in the Best Caesar in Town contest is on until August 4 and people can vote daily here.
