LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Monday’s report on COVID-19.

For the time being, LNN is only reporting COVID numbers once per week each Monday, so today’s article will cover statistics compiled over that time.

Over the last seven days, AHS reported an average of 44 cases per day, bringing the total to 232,806. 605 cases are active while 229,885 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 17 people tested positive with six of those coming from Lethbridge.

Active infections both in the city and across the region rose slightly.

Over the last week, nine Albertans died from COVID with four in the North Zone, three in the Calgary Zone, and two from the South Zone. To date, 2,316 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for people from Lethbridge County and the County of Newell. More specific details from AHS are no longer being provided to media.

Provincially, 100 patients are currently hospitalized including 27 who have been admitted to intensive care.

A media release from the Alberta Government says 5,056,062 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across the province.

This means that 74.8 per cent of eligible Albertans have received at least one dose while 59.7 per cent are fully immunized.

“Every dose of vaccine that’s administered increases our protection against COVID-19,” says Premier Jason Kenney. “These vaccines are safe and save lives. I urge every Albertan to get both their doses. It will not only protect you and your family, but help our province stay open for good.”
