“Angel Dust” to film in Medicine Hat, starring Daniel Baldwin, looking for extras

MEDICINE HAT, AB – If you’ve dreamed of seeing yourself on a TV show, that could become reality in Medicine Hat in the next few weeks.

The producers of Angel Dust, a miniseries being filmed in the city this summer, are looking for background extras for the show.

Medicine Hat actor and producer Chrystal Snow says they need all sorts of people to be extras.

“We have some scenes that were doing that we need some background which will be a family festival. So we’ll need some families with young kids, basically all ages can come,” she says. “That’s a scene where some of our people are going out to a family function. We do need some people that either have instruments or know how to play instruments. They won’t actually be playing them but they need to look like they are.”

Extras are also needed to play devils and angels in a scene set in a bar. You need to be 18 to be in that scene.

They are also looking for motorcycles, preferably Harley-Davidsons, and cool classic cars to feature.

Snow says it will be a unique experience for anyone.

“I think it’s just fun to see how films are really made so you’re right in there, in the action,” she said

Snow has lived in Medicine Hat for 20 years and after originally planning to shoot Angel Dust in B.C., decided this was the place to do it. Even before filming has started, she says she’s seen plenty of support from the community.

Snow, owner of local company Break the Chain Films, describes Angel Dust as a supernatural drama in which a guardian angel, in order to get back into Heaven, must help an aspiring actress cut the bad influences out of her life and find the path she is destined to travel.

Filming is expected to start on July 26 and last for about two weeks. They’ll be shooting around the city, using locations like St. Mary’s Bridge and Liquid Niteclub.

Daniel Baldwin is the star of the show, but Snow says he might not make it to the city because of COVID-19 border rules.

This summer’s filming is for a miniseries, but Snow is confident they’ll be back next spring or summer for a full season. She says Baldwin will be here for a lot of that and that a much larger crew will be needed then.
