Active COVID cases in South Zone rising to nearly four digits

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Alberta Health Services has released its report on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics compiled over the past three days.

In that time, 1,972 cases were confirmed with an average of 657 per day. That brings the total to date to 244,969 cases, 7,777 of which are active while 234,844 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 230 people tested positive over the weekend for a daily average of 77. Active cases have risen to 984, an increase of 219 from the same time last week.

Across the region, there were 121 new infections in Medicine Hat, 38 in Lethbridge, 15 in Cardston County, and 14 in Brooks.

Five Albertans died from COVID since Friday’s report with two in the Calgary Zone and one each in the South, Edmonton, and North Zones. To date, 2,348 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a person from Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 244 patients are currently hospitalized including 54 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks an increase of 83 and 11 respectively over the last week.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 99,481 cases, 2,438 active
    • 73 in hospital, 17 in ICU
    • 714 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 81,165 cases, 2,408 active
    • 91 in hospital, 20 in ICU
    • 1,112 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 28,297 cases, 1,158 active
    • 21 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 206 deaths (one new)
  • Cental Zone – 21,954 cases, 765 active
    • 24 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 175 deaths
  • South Zone – 14,050 cases, 984 active
    • 35 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 141 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of new cases over the past three days in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 5,071 cases (38 new), 140 active, 40 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,888 cases (21 new), 72 active, four deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,668 cases (six new), 33 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,514 cases (11 new), 35 active, 25 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 2,107 cases (121 new), 551 active, 25 deaths (one new)
  • Brooks – 1,578 cases (14 new), 37 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,308 cases (six new), 32 active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,083 cases (15 new), 43 active, 19 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 601 cases (seven new), 24 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 479 cases (two new), eight active, three deaths
  • Cypress County – 435 cases (10 new), 77 active, one death
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 374 cases (two new), 26 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 326 cases (two new), three active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 271 cases (10 new), 15 active, three deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 167 cases (two new), eight active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 93 cases, five active, one death
