LETHBRIDGE, AB – Whoop-Up Days is a go in Lethbridge this weekend.

The celebrated festival is scheduled for September 2 to September 5. Lethbridge & District Exhibition has laid out its health and safety protocols for the end of summer event.

Organizers note the event will look different this year, but the health and safety protocols in place “ensure we’ve created a healthy environment for our guests, staff, partners and community.”

The following protocols will be in place for the festival:

  • Mandatory temperature screenings upon entry: Guests will be “screened for flu symptoms and with a temperature check” upon their arrival. If symptoms are present, the individual will not be allowed to enter the venue and will be asked to leave. If a guest’s temperature measures at 38 degrees Celsius, they will be directed to sit for a few minutes and cool down in a designated chill zone with a bottle of water before being asked to re-check their temperature. If a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius is measured for a second time, the individual will not be permitted to enter and will be asked to leave Exhibition Park.
    • The AHS vaccination clinic will be open for walk-in vaccinations in the West Pavilion at Exhibition Park on Friday, Sept. 3 and Saturday, Sept. 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Exhibition stated that public health recommendations are highly encouraged while visiting the venue, both indoors and outdoors:
    • Stay home if you are sick;
    • Masks are “highly recommended”;
    • Practice physical distancing;
    • Practice personal hygiene (washing hands, etc.)
  • Lethbridge & District Exhibition staff will be required to take a mandatory rapid screen test each day from September 2 to 5 to begin their shift with a negative screen result.
  • Staff will be required to wear masks indoors and outdoors while on shift and while interacting with guests.
  • Organizers have increased their “communications to staff to reinforce the importance of personal preventative measures such as staying home when ill, wearing PPE and proper handwashing.”
  • Additional hand sanitizing stations will be placed throughout the venue and exhibition grounds.
  • High contact areas are consistently monitored for cleanliness. Cleaning and housekeeping staff will sanitize commonly touched areas, including Pavilion door handles, railings, washrooms and portable outhouses.
  • Signage will be placed throughout the venue to remind guests of personal preventative measures they can take to avoid the spread of germs.

Lethbridge & District Exhibition also noted that they have a zero-tolerance policy of verbal and physical abuse directed towards staff and third-party partners. Failure to comply with said policy will result in the removal from the exhibition grounds.
