Geoffrey Capp running for federal Christian Heritage Party in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Geoffrey Capp is one of the latest candidates to throw his hat in the ring for September’s federal election.

“Christian Heritage Party is a party I’ve belonged to since 1988 and I still agree with what they stand for and what they promote as being the plan for bringing Canada back to prosperity and peace.”

Despite the word “Christian” being in the name, Capp believes it is a group that would benefit people of all faiths from having in office.

“The Christian heritage of our country is what makes the other faiths possible. Our heritage is of religious freedom and it means that people who are of Islam or Jewish or Hindu or other beliefs can freely practice their faith here because of our principle of religious freedom. That’s part of the heritage of our country – the tolerance of people who are not like us.”

Among his top political priorities, he wants to play a role in justice reform for Canada.

That includes things like having restitution ordered at the time of sentencing, having the period of parole following a convicted person’s sentence instead of including that time in the sentence, and having time served only count if the person is actively taking part in rehabilitation programs.

Capp would also advocate for zero-based budgeting where budgets would be built from scratch every year instead of “reusing the same one and bumping the numbers up every year.”

He told LNN that, because he has been a frontline worker for his entire working life, he understands the problems that every day people face. That includes positions in accounting, payroll, customer service, and security.

General voting day for the 2021 federal election is Monday, September 20.

At the time of publication, four candidates have been confirmed to be running in the Lethbridge riding for the federal election.
