9th annual Reuse Rendezvous set for Sept. 10-12

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Reuse Rendezvous is back after a one-year hiatus.

The event is organized by Environment Lethbridge after being launched initially by the City of Lethbridge in 2011. The initiative gives residents the opportunity to donate unwanted gently used items to their friends and neighbours.

The ninth annual Reuse Rendezvous takes place September 10, 11 and 12 this year.

Executive director with Environment Lethbridge, Kathleen Sheppard, said “we know many people have been eagerly awaiting the return of Reuse Rendezvous in 2021.”

“It’s the perfect opportunity to declutter and pass on items that you no longer need. It’s also a great opportunity to find new-to-you treasures. For students returning for the fall semester, it’s the perfect way to furnish an apartment or dorm room.”

In 2015, 165 households were registered for the event and by 2019, that number had grown to 496 households. Environment Lethbridge says survey results estimate more than 1,400 boxes of smaller items and nearly 750 larger items, such as furniture, were given away during the 2018 campaign.

To take part, residents can place items marked “FREE” in front of their homes starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10.

Over the course of that weekend, people are invited to cruise the Lethbridge streets and help themselves to any of the items listed, free of charge. The event wraps up at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 12. Any remaining items should be reclaimed by their original owners.

Environment Lethbridge is asking all participants this year to be mindful of COVID-19 and try to maintain social distancing and use hand sanitizer after visiting different locations.

Residents planning to participate are also encouraged to register their location on an online map hosted by Environment Lethbridge. More details are available here and through the group’s Facebook page.
