Mark Campbell running for re-election to Lethbridge City Council this October

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Mark Campbell is running for Lethbridge City Council in October’s municipal election.

He’s seeking his second term as a city councillor. Campbell said during his first term, he learned a lot, telling LNN, “I’m looking forward to the challenge of trying to recover from this once in a hundred-year pandemic and move forward with a lot of positive thoughts, and a lot of things that are going on in the city that will hopefully benefit our town.”

One of his focuses is continuing to advocate for solving social issues in Lethbridge, like affordable housing.

“We have to figure out a way to get the entire community on board with how we can solve that and there’s a great committee formed that includes a lot of the businesses, a lot of social groups – all of the players in trying to find solutions to what we can do with housing, with buildings that are already there.”

Campbell said it’s also important to strengthen relationships with provincial and federal governments, noting, “that’s how we hopefully get more dollars to build things like intox/detox, affordable housing.”

“It’s how we’re able to get some funding for the city for the airport. That’s another big economic recovery [point] moving forward – is how we continue to improve the airport. It’s an economic mover and of course, the Exhibition and Agri-food Hub – that is huge. That’s going to be a big economic booster for the city, so I’m looking forward to that.”

He believes his experiences on city council would be an asset if re-elected, although, the job of being a city councillor is not easy, with Campbell noting, “it’s the hardest job I’ve ever had, so you’ve got to do your work.”

“You have to do your reading, you have to do your research, you’ve got to talk to people, you have to understand what the community is feeling like and so, I’ve had the experience of going through those sorts of things.”

He’s hoping to take his experience forward and “make Lethbridge a better place.”

“I’ve lived here all my life. I understand Lethbridge, I love Lethbridge and moving forward, I want to be part of it.”

General voting day in the 2021 municipal election is October 18.
