LETHBRIDGE, AB – A member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes is adding extra significance to any goals he scores this season.

Ty Nash has revived the KidSport Challenge and will personally donate $10 for every goal he scores during the 2021-2022 WHL season to KidSport Lethbridge and Taber.

The challenge was started back in the 2015-2016 season by former Hurricanes captain Tyler Wong. He was joined by teammates Carter Folk and Ryley Lindgren. With the help of ‘Canes fans, they raised just over $6,5000. The campaign was renewed for the 2016-2017 season when Wong and Lindgren were joined by Giorgio Estephan, as Folk was traded prior to that season. That year, the trio was able to raise over $13,000, with the assistance of fans, for a grand total just shy of $20,000 over two seasons.

Nash said, “the city of Lethbridge has given me so much being here for the last two years and I want to give back to the community.”

“After hearing about the idea two years ago, it’s always been something I’ve wanted to do. Knowing I can help give kids in our community the opportunity to play sports is something I am proud to be part of.”

Nash added sports have been a major part of his life and have led to great opportunities. He wanted young children to have those same opportunities as well.

“I am lucky and blessed that with the support from my parents and family I have been able to play hockey my whole life.”

The Scottsdale, Arizona product is currently in his third season with the Hurricanes.

“KidSport is an incredible organization and I want to encourage Hurricanes fans to donate with me. Help me help kids play sports.”

The WHL club has announced that it will match dollar for dollar what Nash will be donating. General Manager of Business Operations, Terry Huisman said, “seeing that our current players are continuing the tradition left by great Hurricanes of the past, it’s a no-brainer for us to once again follow their lead and donate alongside them.”

“The fact that our players recognize the support we get from the community and want to give back is great to see and we are proud to once again donate to KidSport.”

The Hurricanes are two games into their regular season, having won their first two games of the year. Nash has yet to score a goal, but he’ll have plenty of chances throughout the year. Up next for Lethbridge is a meeting with the Edmonton Oil Kings at the ENMAX Centre Wednesday, October 6.
