LPS K9 Officer taking on 24-hour pullup challenge for mental health awareness

Oct 6, 2021 | 6:00 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A local K9 officer will be doing as many pullups he can in 24 hours to raise awareness and money for First Responders’ mental health.

Lethbridge Police Service K9 Officer Terry Fieguth will be attempting a marathon feat of physical endurance on October 9th and 10th, starting at 10 am Saturday.

“First Responders and their families endure unique situations that can take a toll on their mental health. Oftentimes, if they are struggling internally, they do it in silence because of the stigma surrounding mental health,” the release from LPS reads.

“I want people to know it’s OK not to be OK all the time and to never shy away from seeking help if it’s needed,” says Fieguth.

All funds raised through the event will be earmarked for Lethbridge First Responders and their families through the Legacy Place Society.

Fieguth says, over the past seven months, he has trained for the feat, estimating he’s done around 25,000 pullups each month.

He wants to reach near 4,000 pullups the day of the event doing 10-minute intervals of 100 pullups with a five-minute break in between for 24 hours.

100 per cent of all donations will go directly to Legacy Place Society with a tax receipt available. To donate, go to https://www.facebook.com/donate/220297013361459/

The event will be streamed live on Facebook on October 9 and Fieguth scheduled the fundraiser to end, fittingly, on World Mental Health Day Sunday, October 10.
