Oct 6, 2021 | 2:06 AM

GJOA HAVEN, Nunavut — The RCMP officer who shot and killed an armed man in a remote Nunavut community is scheduled to continue his testimony today at a coroner’s inquest.

Cpl. Ian Crowe fired at 21-year-old Charles Qirngnirq in December 2016, after the man was spotted outside the Gjoa Haven airport with a rifle.

Crowe and his partner, the only two officers in the hamlet that day, told the inquest yesterday that they feared for their lives and the community’s safety.

Crowe said he heard Qirngnirq yell that he wanted to die.

Former corporal Tanya Kellogg said Qirngnirq pointed a rifle at them, and Crowe fired.

Crowe is to face questions from lawyers from the coroner, the RCMP and Qirngnirq’s family.
