Battle of the Fans: Lethbridge group raising funds for disability causes through lip sync videos

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The competition is heating up in Season 2 of Battle of the Fans.

The online musical competition created by L’Arche Canada aims to raise funds and awareness for those living with disabilities through a fun contest.

Groups from across the world create lip-sync music videos. The ones with the most views, likes, and donations move on to the next round.

Marie Moyer, Assistant Coordinator at L’Arche Lethbridge, says it is a wonderful initiative from all sides.

“Doing a competition like this, all together, I mean, it’s just so much fun. It brings our community together and it also showcases the relationships and [friendliness] that people can have with each other regardless of abilities.”

In each round, the competition hosts choose songs for each group to make music videos for. The groups have a short amount of time to make the videos and to get more attention for them.

L’Arche Lethbridge made it through the first round last week with their rendition of Abba’s Mama Mia. In the current round, they made a video for Fame by Irene Cara. The music video starts at the 1:45 mark.

“We started thinking about being famous and came up with this idea of limousines – well, famous people get to go in limousines, so we called up California Dreams Limo and they were gracious enough to give us a limousine for an hour just to do some filming. We had a lot of fun pretending to be partying in a limousine.”

Moyer says they are entirely a group of amateur performers, videographers, and editors.

Half of the funds raised through the competition will go to the participating L’Arche community, which aids people with disabilities. The other half will be sent to L’Arche communities in developing nations that do not have access to the same amount of resources as we have in Canada.

You can watch the video for round two until 4:00 pm on Wednesday, November 17.
