Dec 16, 2021 | 7:21 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge has confirmed deadline for community groups looking to apply for grants.

The city says with pandemic health measures remaining somewhat consistent for an extended period of time now, it’s been decided that the Community Event Support Grant will move back to having four deadlines per year, as we approach 2022.

Those four dates are:

  • January 31;
  • April 30;
  • July 31;
  • October 31 (or the following business day if the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday).

All applications are due at 4:30 p.m. on the deadline day and scored the following week with communication to the groups on the results being shared immediately.

The city says during the pandemic, many event were moved online. However, grant applications “dropped considerably”. In a release, the city noted that, “the return of in-person events play an important role in community connection and benefits overall well-being.”

“Many events offer learning opportunities, or explore creativity and often include an element of recreation, sport, or active living. Community events are also economic generators, no matter how small or large.”

The grant is available to all not-for-profits in the community. Grants provide financial help to events like Neighbour Day celebrations to others like Street Machine Weekend and the Rotary Dragonboat Festival. Funding is available for half the eligible costs, up to a maximum of $7,500.
