Lethbridge Transit reports 26% rise in ridership during gas price surge

Mar 24, 2022 | 9:51 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Transit is reporting a large increase in the number of people taking the bus over the last month.

When gas prices began to surge in February, Director of Community Services Michael Fox says they have seen a 26% increase in ridership for transit services.

“What we are seeing is that the high cost of fuel is growing the customer base for Lethbridge Transit. These gains in ridership, on top of those from the cityLINK Network redesign, indicate that residents and visitors to Lethbridge now see transit as an option to meet some transportation needs.”

Timothy Sanderson, G.M. of Lethbridge Transit, adds that this follows a prior increase in ridership due to recent changes in the cityLINK network design.

“As a regular user of Lethbridge Transit, I have been noticing new faces on the bus lately. It is great to see that Lethbridge Transit can provide this much-needed resource for the community as gas prices impact household budgets.”
