Whoop-Up Days 2022 to feature traditional Indigenous events
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The 2022 edition of Whoop-Up Days in Lethbridge will feature a number of Indigenous events for the first time in the festival’s history.
On Thursday, July 7, 2022, Lethbridge & District Exhibition announced a new partnership with the Blackfoot Confederacy.
Whoop-Up Days will feature the first Lethbridge & District Siksikaitsitapi Pow Wow on August 24 and 25, 2022. Additionally, the annual event will include the first Lethbridge & District Siksikaitsitapi Princess Pageant from August 23 to 24, 2022 and Warrior Relay Races at the Lethbridge & District Pro Rodeo from August 25 to 27, 2022.
The Pow Wow will invite dancers to register at no cost to take part in Tiny Tots, Junior, Teen, Adult Men, Adult Women and Golden Age categories in various forms of dance, including Buckskin, Chicken, Fancy, Grass, Jungle, Traditional and Drumming. The Pow Wow will include cash prize pay-outs for each category, totalling over $65,000. The grand entry will occur at 1:00 p.m. on each day with the Pow Wow ending at 7:00 p.m. before the Lethbridge & District Pro Rodeo.
