Lethbridge-Medicine Hat’s unemployment rate remains unchanged at 5.0% in June

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The unemployment rate for the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat region went unchanged last month. In June, the jobless rate was at 5.0%, the same as in May.

Meanwhile, Alberta’s unemployment rate last month was 4.9%. That’s a decline from the 5.3% reported in May of 2022.

Below is how each economic region fared in June, with May’s unemployment rate listed in parenthesis:

  • Red Deer: 6.9% (7.4)
  • Edmonton: 5.7% (6.3)
  • Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake: 5.5% (5.7)
  • Calgary: 5.3% (6.3)
  • Lethbridge-Medicine Hat: 5.0% (5.0)
  • Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River: 4.5% (4.7)
  • Camrose-Drumheller: 4.1% (4.6)

Canada’s economy lost 43,000 jobs in June. The loss of jobs was the first decline in employment nation-wide since January.

The country’s jobless rate fell to 4.9%, a new record low. May’s rate was 5.1%, which was the previous lowest figure since at least 1976, which is as far back as comparable data goes.
