LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Heritage Day festival took place in Lethbridge on Monday, August 1, 2022, and organizers were happy to see so many people from the community take part in the celebration.

The Southern Alberta Ethnic Association (SAEA) hosted the event at the Lethbridge Multicultural Centre, which featured food from around the world and cultural performances throughout the day.

Anastasia Serada is a coordinator with the SAEA, and she says the festival is a good event to highlight and learn about other cultures.

“Heritage Day is a great way to celebrate your own heritage. A great way to learn about other people’s heritage,” Serada said. “Also for the folks that participate, it’s like a nice way of finding space to celebrate your own cultural heritage.”

Serada said the event had a variety of performance groups, including Taiko Drummers and Ukrainian Dancers.

“I counted and we had probably 70 different performers [in] several different groups,” Serada said.

There was also food from almost every corner of the world ready to be tasted at the festival, including Ukrainian perogies, various latin foods, Nigerian cuisine, and more.

If you missed out on all the fun, don’t fret. The SAEA hosts a number of different cultural events each year.
