COLEMAN, AB – Seniors now have a new place to call home in the Crowsnest Pass.

A grand opening celebration was held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at the Peaks to Pines property in Coleman.

The $26.2 million complex offers 61 units for independent living and 24 designated supportive living units for those who need more care, specifically those living with dementia.

The facility features a three-story building and two single-story wings for the dementia unit.

Crowsnest Pass Mayor Blair Painter says this will make a real difference for seniors living in the area.

“We are tremendously proud to open the new Peaks to Pines state-of-the-art seniors facility in our community. This project will assist in filling the need for affordable housing choices for our senior residents in the Crowsnest Pass,” says Painter.

Peaks to Pines is owned by the Alberta Social Housing Corporation and is operated by Crowsnest Pass Senior Housing.

Alberta Health Minister Jason Copping says it is a much-needed home that will provide quality care and housing.

“The inclusion of the 24 designated supportive living spaces will allow residents to age in place, in their own community, in a homelike setting surrounded by familiar places and friends while they receive the appropriate levels of care and support,” says Copping.

Of the $26.2 million bill, $19.7 million was provided by the provincial and federal governments under the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement. The other $6.5 million came from provincial continuing care capital grant funding.
