Veteran’s Week will begin with the raising of the poppy flag at Lethbridge City Hall on November 4, 2022, and will continue until Remembrance Day, November 11.

The City of Lethbridge will also install a banner in front of the Cenotaph near City Hall to indicate the area along 4 Avenue South between 9 Avenue and 11 Avenue South, which will be temporarily named Veteran Avenue during the week.

Legion Poppy Chair Jeff Alden said in a news release, “This public banner is one way for the City of Lethbridge to show their support and appreciation of veterans.” Alden continues, “Wherever citizens see the poppy flag during veteran’s week, it will cause them pause to reflect on the service, sacrifice and commitment of Canadian Armed Forces members and be a reminder to ensure they are wearing a poppy.”

The 2022 Poppy campaign starts on October 28. The Lethbridge Legion has set a goal to raise $90,000 to support veterans in need, their families, and long term care facilities.

The legion encourages everyone to wear a poppy from October 29 through Remembrance Day.

Remembrance Day services will return to in-person events this year.

The services will be held at the Lethbridge and District Exhibition in the South Pavilion starting at 10:30 a.m. on November 11.

This year’s Cenotaph Service will start at 10:40 a.m. near City Hall. It will be conducted entirely by the local 20th Independent Field Battery R.C.A.

A fly-past of the RCAF C-17 transport plane from the City of Lethbridge 429 Squadron is scheduled to take place at 11:00 a.m. if operations allow.

The Lethbridge Legion says the banners will be on display until Remembrance Day. People can sponsor a veteran banner for next year for $225. For more information, visit the Lethbridge Veterans Banners website.
