LETHBRIDGE, AB – Multiple vehicles made their way to Coutts, Alberta on Saturday morning, January 28, 2023.

The convoy marked the one-year anniversary of a 2022 blockade at the United States border in Coutts aimed at protesting COVID-19 mandates that were in effect at that time.

This year, motorists involved met at gathering points in Claresholm, Fort Macleod and Lethbridge before driving to the Southern Alberta border town.

The RCMP and Lethbridge Police Service were on-hand to control traffic.

In a statement, the RCMP said it was aware of the planned event, “and worked closely with the organizers to ensure that police and public safety was maintained, while protecting the rights of Canadians.”

“There was an enhanced and noticeable police presence at intersection points along the route, and at the turnaround point in Coutts.”

An RCMP spokesperson confirmed that everything went as planned.
