Mayor Magrath Drive South hotel fire causes estimated $1 million in damages

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Firefighters in Lethbridge were kept busy Friday morning.

At around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023, 19 firefighters from three different stations were called out to an alarm activation at the Holiday Inn hotel, located at 2375 Mayor Magrath Drive South.

Officials said there was a fire located in a room on the third floor. One individual was rescued from the room and was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge. No further injuries were reported.

The City of Lethbridge said crews were able to contain the blaze to the single room, but several occupants of the hotel were displaced due to smoke and water damage.

Officials said the building was significantly impacted by the sprinkler system and damage from the fire is estimated at $1,000,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

In addition to the Holiday Inn hotel fire, crews tended to a fire in downtown Lethbridge.
