LETHBRDIGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge has announced the names for its garbage, recycling and organics collection truck fleet.

In March 2023, officials put out a call to learners in elementary schools within the Lethbridge School Division and Holy Spirit School Division, as well as Home School students, to submit names for 14 trucks.

Overall, the City of Lethbridge received more than 500 entries to name four garbage trucks, four recycling trucks and six organics collection trucks.

The chosen names are as follows:

  • Dumpenstein
  • Trash Panda
  • Super Trash Bros
  • Oscar
  • Bluey
  • Sonic
  • PikaBlue
  • Recyclesaurus Rex
  • Worm’s Delite
  • Haulin’ Grass
  • Binderella
  • The Bin-Credible Hulk
  • Green Machine
  • Professor Organical

James Nicholls, Collections Manager, Waste & Environment with the City of Lethbridge said these naming contests are an excellent opportunity to connect with the community.

“Naming the trucks really connects people with the trucks that are going through their community on a weekly basis collecting garbage, recycling or organics,” Nicholls said.

“So again, something that maybe seems like a little abstract to the community, it really brings it home and shows them exactly what they’re doing and how they’re trying to do it.”

Nicholls explained that the rollout of green carts has been running on track, and that the City of Lethbridge is over 50 per cent complete for distributing bins.

Currently, distribution on the west side of the city is complete, and officials are working through the south side and will soon move to the north side.

The City of Lethbridge noted that all residents should anticipate having their bins by May 12, 2023.

Those who want to track trucks like the Bin-Credible Hulk, or to see if their green, black or blue cart has been collected can do so on the City of Lethbridge Collection Truck Tracking Tool.
