LETHBRIDGE, AB – With green cart distribution nearing completion, the City of Lethbridge has rolled out a new initiative to teach residents about the curbside organics program.

Locally-owned business Two Guys & A Pizza Place has partnered with the City of Lethbridge to place stamps on their boxes to remind people where to put it once they’re done.

Customers will see a large ‘Green Cart Approved’ stamp on their pizza boxes throughout May 2023 to encourage bin use.

Cory Medd, owner of Two Guys & A Pizza Place, said supporting the initiative was a no-brainer.

“You know, we’ve been a part of the Lethbridge community for 21 years now and we’re proud of that,” Medd stated.

He added that the business’ values have always focused on great customer service and excellent food. Medd hopes that they can provide that in a sustainable way while educating the public on the organics collection program.

He said, “I know as a homeowner; I have a lot to learn and I’m excited to be a part of it and it’s kind of an honour to be one of the first businesses to spread the word.”

The ‘Green Cart Approved’ stamp is available to any Lethbridge business that wants to participate and deals with organic consumables.

The only criteria to request a stamp through Lethbridge 311 is the business needs to have or be working to implement its own organic waste diversion plan.

According to the City of Lethbridge, there are 13 stamps to be rotated and shared between businesses.

General Manager of the Waste & Environment department, Mandi Parker explained, “Partnering with local business is one more way we’re trying to reach residents and support them in learning about their new green cart.”

Parker added, “Two Guys [and a Pizza Place] is not only a recognizable brand that is quintessentially Lethbridge, but Cory and his team produce a lot of organic and compostable products, which is a great fit for green carts too.”

Those interested in learning more about the green carts can attend two open houses at Lethbridge City Hall on Saturday, May 6 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., or on Tuesday, May 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to have any questions answered in-person.
