LETHBRIDGE, AB – The United Conservative Party (UCP) candidate for Lethbridge-East made an announcement Saturday morning, focusing on community safety.

On May 27, 2023, Nathan Neudorf reaffirmed that a re-elected UCP government will take steps to help restore safety for communities across the province, including Lethbridge, through the Safe Streets Action Plan, an initiative first announced by UCP leader Danielle Smith in early May.

Neudorf stated, “We’re saying enough is enough, safety on our streets is not negotiable.”

He added that, “We [the UCP] will do whatever we can to address the broken bail system, fight back against gang violence, crack-down on the fentanyl and illegal gun trade, and keep violent and sexual offenders off our streets.”

The Safe Streets Action Plan includes measures like attaching bracelet monitors to dangerous offenders who have been released from custody on bail, and hiring sheriffs who will monitor them.

A news release from the party noted that over the past four years, the UCP government “took meaningful steps to reduce crime and address the root causes of it.”

Some of those steps cited by the UCP include user fees being removed to access addiction treatment beds and the recovery communities being built across the province, including one in Lethbridge.

The UCP also highlighted the establishment of the Edmonton and Calgary Public Safety Task Forces.

Neudorf said, “The NDP has no credibility when it comes to advocating for the safety of Albertans and will simply follow along with the Liberal-NDP alliances’ soft approach to tackling crime.”

“A re-elected UCP government will never be so flippant with the safety of Albertans. A government’s job is to protect its citizens, and the NDP has made it clear that Albertans cannot trust them to do that.”

General election day is Monday, May 29.
