LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge International Airshow is returning for 2023.

The show will run on July 29 and 30 at the Lethbridge Airport. The Airshow returned in 2022 after a five year hiatus.

President of the Lethbridge International Airshow Association (LIASA) Dallas Harty said the show was originally not intended to return for 2023, but plans changed to avoid conflict with the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force in 2024.

Harty explained, “The availability of assets, both military and civilian, next summer is going to be very slim. We definitely did not want to compete for the few pieces that would be available.”

He added, “We sat down and talked to a number of different people, both from the military and the civilian world, both Canadian and American. We decided that in the interests of the Lethbridge International Airshow and the people of southern Alberta, the best thing for us to do would be to do a show again in 2023.”

In 2023, the airshow will have 13 aerial demonstrations, including gliders, multiple two-ship teams and a three-ship team, along with the solo pilots.

In addition to the airshow, the event will be full of activities on the ground for people to enjoy. The 2023 airshow will have 14 food trucks serving the event, beer gardens, the Three Sisters Market, and more.

Organizers aim to have 20,000 people attend in 2023, and Harty believes the economic impact to Lethbridge and the surrounding community could be in the range of $2 million.

The airshow is in need of volunteers to help get the show up and running for the end of July.

Harty explained, “This show would be literally impossible without the contributions of the volunteers, and we desperately need volunteers. We’ve got a good bunch together already, but we could always use more. The amount of volunteers it takes to run a show like this is mind-boggling. We need between 100 and 150 volunteers and we can use all the help we can get.

Harty added that some of the roles volunteers can fill are for event security, 50/50 draws and helping set up the area the during the week of the event, among others.

The full list of air attractions with the names of the planes and pilots is available at the Lethbridge International Airshow website, as is the section to sign up as a volunteer.
