Charlene Bruised Head-Mountain Horse, Indigenous Relations Advisor with the City of Lethbridge said, “When you break down what is reconciliation, it is coming together and reconciling within ourselves what is it that we hope to achieve, which is community, engagement and equality.”

Monday will also see the inaugural Reconciliation Awards night hosted at City Hall. A number of community members and organizations will be recognized for their “outstanding dedication to building stronger relationships”.

The City and Reconciliation Lethbridge Advisory Committee (RLAC) is sponsoring the free screening of the film, Bones of Crows, at the Movie Mill from September 22 to 28 as part of the week.

Other events include an art exhibit in the City Hall foyer from Monday, September 25 to Saturday, September 30, and an Honouring our Children Pipe ceremony, also on Saturday. A full list of City of Lethbridge events can be found here.

The University of Lethbridge (U of L) and Lethbridge College are also holding their own reconciliation events.

At U of L, the Iniskim Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action Challenge begins at 11:30 a.m, in the University Hall atrium on Tuesday, September 26. The school said the event will “engage the campus community in personal actions that will foster reconciliation on campus and within the community.” U of L events are listed here.

Lethbridge College is holding its Orange Shirt Day and the launch of Truth and Reconciliation Week, also on Tuesday. Their event list is available at the Lethbridge College website.
